Thousands of SIM Cards Blocked: FBR's Crackdown on Non-Filers

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has blocked 11,252 SIM cards of non-filers to date and announced that this rigorous process will continue in the coming days.

The FBR and cellular mobile operators (CMOs) had previously been at odds over this issue. Initially, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) opposed the FBR’s move but later decided to remain silent.

An FBR spokesperson stated on Thursday that as of May 22, 2024, the FBR had blocked 11,252 SIM cards of non-filers. This action is part of the FBR’s broader strategy to enforce tax compliance and enhance revenue collection.
